Beyond expectations: creating a stay with character
Share
From scent and sound to sleep and the morning coffee ritual, hotels are taking a more holistic approach to the small moments that shape the guest experience and give a stay its character.
There was a time when a hotel room could be neatly divided into its parts. Amenities belonged in the bathroom. Wellness belonged in the spa. Coffee came in a sachet and the minibar was there for convenience.
Those lines are disappearing.
Today, some of the most interesting shifts in hospitality are happening in the everyday moments of a stay. The shower before dinner. The first coffee of the morning. A great night’s sleep. Music playing while getting ready to go out. Reaching for something cold after a day by the pool.
Increasingly, these are not simply functional details. They are opportunities for a hotel to express its personality and create an experience that feels distinctly its own.

Wellness moves beyond the spa
The bathroom is a case in point. Dispensers have evolved from a practical sustainability solution into part of the bathroom aesthetic and experience, with collections spanning different formulations, fragrances and design styles. The latest amenity ranges from ADA Cosmetics take the sensory experience further, with collections incorporating Actimood® fragrance technology, developed to positively influence emotional wellbeing. Behind the scenes, new dispenser refilling systems are also helping hotels rethink the operational side of amenities, with greater focus on hygiene, traceability, waste and housekeeping efficiency.
That more holistic view of wellbeing extends throughout the stay. It can be found in the tactile comfort of Bemboka bedding, the quality of Dyson and ghd tools guests use to get ready, and even the soundtrack to a stay. Audio from Marshall and Tivoli Audio brings together sound and design, adding another layer of personality to the room.
The minibar gets a makeover
In-room refreshment is becoming more considered too. ST. ALi coffee and T2 tea bring flavour, ritual and recognisable Australian brands into the room, while FIELDBAR takes the experience beyond it, offering a beautifully designed cooler for poolside, picnics, private terraces and room service.
Individually, these may seem like small details. Together, they create something much bigger: a stay with a character all its own.
